Grateful for You!
#GivingTuesday fundraising drive to support hyperlocal education journalism in Orange County extended until Dec. 1.
We asked for your support on #GivingTuesday, and you answered, Orange County!
Thank you to all of the readers who stepped up and donated to Spotlight Schools, your hyperlocal newsroom dedicated to covering students and schools in O.C. While we didn't reach our goal before the end of #GivingTuesday, we're close! The #GivingTuesday fundraising drive will now last until Friday, Dec. 1 and we would really appreciate your support!
That means you have more time to contribute and score a very soft and stylish Spotlight Schools T-shirt. Donate $50 and we'll send one to you!
What do your donations support?
Local newsrooms have been closing across the country at an alarming rate, according to the latest State of Local News report from Northwestern University. Spotlight Schools is part of an effort to reverse that trend by rebuilding local news.
Your tax-deductible contribution can help sustain and grow our newsroom. Thanks in part to donations from #GivingTuesday in 2022, Spotlight Schools was able to hire its first Editorial Intern, Bella Kim, a junior at Los Alamitos High School.
Bella wrote stories about how students can serve on the Orange County Board of Education, about the LAHS dance program, the creation of a student-run Girls in STEM program, and more.
