Meet Our New Editorial Interns
The two rising juniors at Los Alamitos High will contribute student-centered coverage in the 2024-25 school year.
Spotlight Schools is pleased to announce that we have two new Editorial Interns that will add student-centered stories to our coverage of education in Orange County.
Katie Arnoult is a rising junior at Los Alamitos High School in the Los Alamitos Unified School District. Last school year, she served as an editor and reporter at the student-run Griffin Gazette at LAHS where she wrote stories on a variety of topics including an award-winning article on Artificial Intelligence in education.
"With this internship, I hope to get more experience and grow as a journalist," Katie wrote in an email. "I'm excited to continue writing about things going on around my community and work with others!," she wrote.
Katie also serves as a marketing intern for The Youth Center and spent time this summer volunteering as an instructor at its Camp S.H.A.R.K. summer program. In her free time Katie enjoys playing with her dog, reading, photography, and graphic design.
Our second Editorial Intern for the season is Jaya Eapen.
"I am extremely excited to be one of Spotlight Schools’ new interns!," Jaya wrote in an email. Jaya is also a rising junior at Los Alamitos High School. She was a staff writer for the Griffin Gazette last school year, where she covered stories ranging from a profile of a National Merit Scholar to a fashion review of The Met Gala.
"After joining journalism in school this past year, I discovered my love for reporting and helping inform my community about relevant topics," she wrote. "I’m especially excited for this new internship because it gives me the chance to continue writing during the summer and delve into new topics."
Jaya is in the marching band at LAHS and also volunteered at Camp S.H.A.R.K. and other summer youth programs.
"Having Katie and Jaya as editorial interns will bring much-needed student voices and perspectives to Spotlight Schools' coverage. I am thrilled to have them on the team and I think I will learn a lot from them during this experience," said Jeannette Andruss, co-founder of Spotlight Schools.
